Music Careers
How to Prepare
- Enjoy practicing. It's simple. If you love band, that's one thing. But, if you also love practicing on your own time - just making music any chance you get, a career in music might be for you.
- It is not too early! If you think you might be interested in a music career, the most important thing you can do right now is take private lessons. Click HERE for a list of local private teachers. Studying with an expert on your instrument will help you prepare for many important steps on the way to your goal. Auditioning for honor bands, and eventually a music school or university, will be much easier with a private teacher.
- Another great way to see if you'd like to pursue a career in music is to attend a music camp. Whether it is performance or recording, there are a lot of local options. You'd study with experts in your chosen field and have a lot of fun with other students that share your interests! Check out our list of camps, or simply Google music camps near Philadelphia, and you'll have a long list to explore.

EducationYou have to love kids as much (and maybe even more than) you love music. Musical talent alone does not make a great teacher. It requires you to be organized and enthusiastic even when you aren't feeling that way (and especially when the students aren't in the mood!). For more information, visit the National Associaion for Music Education.
